IMAGE CREDIT: statista<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3914\">While it\u2019s clear these chat-based Large Language Model (LLM) tools are popular, it might not be as obvious how you can apply them in your workflow as an Analytics pro. That\u2019s what we\u2019ll be talking about today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fda7\">Why Data Pros Need To Learn To Use AI Tools<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"4e0e\">The world is changing, fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ca17\">Tools like ChatGPT and Google Bard are changing the game, allowing users to complete tasks in minutes that used to take hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"c536\">Here are just some of the reasons any data pro should consider using AI:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Improve your performance &amp; efficiency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automate routine, low-value tasks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spend more time on the higher value activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use AI as an easy way to check your work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leverage AI tools to learn and get questions answered quickly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay on the cutting edge and competitive in your field<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"425a\">Will AI Tools Replace The Need For Data Analyst And Data Scientist Jobs?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"76e1\">This question gets a lot of people pretty fired up\u2026 especially folks in these roles or studying to enter the field. Makes sense, it\u2019s a scary concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"deca\">But fears of Analytics pros losing their jobs to AI are totally overblown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"cd3a\">Companies will always need the special sauce that truly great Analysts bring to the table:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strategic thinking \/ problem solving<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communication skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technical proficiency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"c7da\">AI tools can help with the technical gaps, but when it comes to thinking strategically about a business, deciding where to focus, advocating for and driving change within an organization, AI isn\u2019t showing much promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"e6bb\"><mark>For the foreseeable future, any solid Analyst with good strategic thinking, problem solving, and communication skills is probably safe from AI taking their job.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"f2ce\">While AI likely won\u2019t take your job,&nbsp;<em>another Analyst who uses AI might<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"cd6c\">Imagine trying to be an Analyst today, and never having learned how to use spreadsheets or the internet. You\u2019d be at such a disadvantage relative to your competition. We\u2019ll be saying the same thing about AI tools very soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"43d0\">To make sure you continue to be seen as a top talent in data, you\u2019ll need to work on the uniquely human skills, build a solid technical foundation, and learn to use cutting edge technology like AI. If you can do that, you\u2019ll be truly unstoppable in your career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a434\">Warning: Common Pitfalls of Using LLM Tools<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"bc21\">Before we get into specific analytics use case for AI, it\u2019s worth noting some of the things you need to watch out for while you\u2019re using them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t get yourself in trouble by sharing sensitive company data.&nbsp;<\/strong>Your information isn\u2019t private once you share it with an LLM. A number of companies have already banned employees from using these tools. Any employer would be upset if they found out you compromised sensitive information externally. Don\u2019t get yourself fired.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LLMs are known to \u201challucinate\u201d.<\/strong>&nbsp;This is a nice term for saying they make stuff up. They do it all the time. The problem is, these tools sound just as confident when hallucinating as when they are giving you accurate information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sometimes you\u2019ll get an answer to your question, but&nbsp;<strong>the solution you receive might not be the optimal one<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Today\u2019s LLM tools are very broad and&nbsp;<strong>they might lack specific domain expertise or deep knowledge of a specific area<\/strong>&nbsp;where you need them to perform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LLMs are NOT capable of common sense, and cannot (at least today) replicate human judgment.&nbsp;<\/strong>These models are trained on the open internet. A lot of the information out there is bad, and the models aren\u2019t good at making that distinction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"f9fd\">The general rules of thumb here are to use sound judgment about what you should and shouldn\u2019t be doing with these tools, and think critically about the responses you\u2019re getting back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"29aa\">If you can do that, and remain aware of the current limitations of LLMs, then they can be really valuable tools that will help you speed things up and automate some of the more mundane tasks in the analytics workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"64ad\">It\u2019s also important to note that these tools are improving very fast. Many of the limitations we are discussing today are problems that may be solved in the near future. Keep these pitfalls in mind, but considering everything related to AI tools a moving target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"7c27\">Best Practices For Using AI Tools For Analytics<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"034c\">One of the quickest ways to be more effective with these tools is to learn how to write better prompts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"dcd6\">Here are some of our Prompt Engineering tips to help you get the most out of LLMs like ChatGPT and Google Bard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Be clear and specific.<\/strong>&nbsp;The more detailed information you give the AI, the more likely you are to get a high value response.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/miro.medium.com\/v2\/resize:fit:720\/format:webp\/1*_O8Zp0LCjzRcRjmOuMQGnQ.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"4917\">2.<strong>&nbsp;Provide context.&nbsp;<\/strong>The more information you can share about your situation and the problem you are trying to solve, the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/miro.medium.com\/v2\/resize:fit:720\/format:webp\/1*9yE3bKqNYbMZ0nNPp8hFHg.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"35e3\">3.<strong>&nbsp;Establish roles.<\/strong>&nbsp;Telling the AI tool who it should impersonate, and who the response is for can go a long way toward shaping a relevant response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/miro.medium.com\/v2\/resize:fit:720\/format:webp\/1*0uIjeJ7SupyZ1G7v45313A.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"89e0\">4.<strong>&nbsp;Set the tone.<\/strong>&nbsp;Try prescribing things like how technical, how detailed, how formal, and how long you want the response to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/miro.medium.com\/v2\/resize:fit:720\/format:webp\/1*PivzuDXIc6o4tbRywQL_TQ.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"7f77\">These are good rules of thumb, but don\u2019t overthink them at the expense of speed.
